How the Turtle Got its Shell

One day the turtle was walking down the street. He was on his way back from the food store. When he got home he sat down and listened to the radio. He heard a sweepstakes offer to get one thousand dollars ($1000) in cash and a movable home. You enter by going over to “Turtle Sweepstakes” and they give you a ticket with a number on it. And if they call the number you have, you win the cash and the merchandise.

So the turtle went down to the Sweepstakes Hall and got the ticket. His number was fifty-two (52). They would say the real number of the ticket in twenty-four (24) hours.

It soon came to the twenty-four hour limit. The turtle turned on the radio and listened. They called the winner. It was fifty-two (52)!

The turtle rushed over to Sweepstakes Hall. The announcer asked him if he wanted the money. He took it. He asked him if he wanted the movable home. He also said, “You would have to keep it forever.” He took it.

Then, he said <the turtle asked>, “Can I take it off?”

He said, “No, it’s stuck on forever.”

And that is how the turtle got its shell.
